Our Story
Every piece we make is touched by more than one member of this family before it gets to you.
That's the first thing you should know about Vancroft & Co. We're the family. There are eight of us and we live in Vermont, and the shop out back is where every piece is made. I've been pouring silver for years. Now my kids pour it with me.
The shop
Four of my six kids work this shop with me.
Makenzie is 15. She does the wax work and the plaster, which means she's the last set of eyes on a piece before it becomes metal. If there's a flaw in the wax, it's a flaw in silver forever. She catches them. She's better at it than I was at her age, and I tell her that.
Boden is 14. He does plaster, cleans prints, and runs the laser. The credential card in your box, with the name burned into the metal, he made that. Fourteen years old and putting his work in a stranger's hands. He takes that seriously.
Arianna is 8. She sets the wax seals and packs every bag and every box. When you break that seal open, you're breaking something my eight-year-old pressed with her own hands and got right.
William is 7. He builds the boxes and cleans the prints and keeps the shop clean. He'll tell you which boxes are his. He's proud of every one.
The other two haven't found their way into the shop yet. That's alright. Nobody in this family is made to do this. They know the door's open.
The work
This is how we do it.
Every pendant, every cuff, every Carry piece is poured solid, right here, in real metal. Nothing is plated. Nothing we pour is outsourced. Nothing leaves this shop until it's right, and every one of us knows what right looks like because we've each had a hand in getting it there.
The moment a kid breaks open a flask and sees the cross they cleaned the wax on sitting there in solid silver, that's the reason I keep the kiln lit. I'm not just teaching them to make jewelry. I'm teaching them that you can make something real with your hands, put your name on it, and stand behind it. That's the part that matters.
Your box
What you're actually holding.
When your box arrives, everything in it came through this family. I poured the metal. One kid cleaned the print, another built the box, another set the seal, another made the card. There's no factory. There's no warehouse. There's a bench, a kiln, and us.
We make these to be worn for a lifetime and handed down. Someday your piece goes to your kid, or somebody else's, and by then my kids will be running this shop without me. That's the plan.
