The seal is a clear coating applied by hand at the bench, after the piece is poured, oxidized, and relieved. It goes on thin, sits in the low places without clouding them, and locks the finish exactly where it was the day it left Vermont. The oxidation stays where it was put. The high points stay bright.
It goes on the back face and the edges — the surfaces that meet skin and shirt — so the front of the piece is untouched.

So you take what you know — the heading you held, the speed you made, the hours since your last known point — and you work it forward on the chart with a pencil. That is dead reckoning. Every navigator who ever crossed open water lived by it, because most of the time the sky was overcast and the coast was gone and the only thing that told you where you were was where you had been.
The skull was on the chart too. Not as a threat. As the last known point. Every man who reads a chart knows how his line ends; the work is in how straight he holds it until then.

Fit
Fits wrists 6 – 7½ in. Measure around your wrist where the cuff will sit, snug but not tight. Slides on from the side over the narrow edge of the wrist and sits with the skulls on top. If your wrist is outside this range, contact us before ordering — we can pour to fit.
