The seal is a clear coating applied by hand at the bench, after the piece is poured, oxidized, and relieved. It goes on thin, sits in the low places without clouding them, and locks the finish exactly where it was the day it left Vermont. The oxidation stays where it was put. The high points stay bright.
It goes on the back face and the edges — the surfaces that meet skin and shirt — so the front of the piece is untouched.

Before there was a count in a castle, there was a word the villages used for what came back. Strigoi. Not a nobleman. A neighbor. Someone buried on Tuesday and seen on the road on Friday, thinner, thirstier, with the same face. The remedy was practical: dig him up, check the teeth, and if the grave had not done its work, finish it.
That is the skull here. Not a monster. A man the ground could not keep. The crack in the crown is where they tried.
Poured full-round, hammered across the dome, eye sockets and nasal cavity cut deep and blackened. Four fangs. Bail worked into the top of the skull so it hangs face-out and does not turn.
Buried is not the same as gone.
